The Academy at L-S is a four-week summer program offering enrichment classes and support programs in math and reading at the elementary level. Operating from July 6 - July 30, 2010, the Academy is a voluntary program. Students may sign up for courses during the entire four weeks or attend any or both of the two-week sessions. This format has been designed to flexibly meet the needs of our students and their summer schedules.
Enrichment classes are designed to provide students with unique learning opportunities not available during the regular school year. A wide variety of classes are offered in two two-week sessions. Students may register for up to three classes during each session. Room numbers will be posted at the start of each session.
Students may be invited to attend the Reading and Math Camps at the Academy. These invitations are based on teacher recommendation. Please Note: If your child has been recommended, an invitation will be sent home in the Friday Folder. It is essential that students attend everyday for support classes to gain the maximum academic benefit these courses can offer. Room numbers will be posted at the start of each session.
All registration forms and payment are due by June 11, 2010. Parents are encouraged to register
on-line.
Payment for all camp sessions can also be made on-line. If not registering by the Internet, please complete the attached registration form and submit it to the Hans Herr Office.
All families who register by June 11, 2010, will receive a discounted tuition price as noted in the catalog.
Please note that there are maximum limits per class, and that the classes will be filled on a first come, first served basis.
All rules and regulations of the Hans Herr Elementary School will be in effect during the Academy. Any suspendable offenses will terminate a student's enrollment. Tuition payments will not be refunded for a suspension.
Programs are offered for students going into grades 2-6. All grade levels are based on the grade the student will be going into in September 2010.
All classes will be held on the Lampeter-Strasburg campus, with most of them at Hans Herr. Most course locations are listed with the course descriptions. Students will also be directed to classrooms during the first day of each session.
All Academy at L-S programs are offered to students outside the Lampeter-Strasburg School District on a space available basis.
If a course is canceled due to insufficient registration, students will receive a refund of the entire tuition for that course. If a student withdraws or is removed from a course, no refund will be given.
Bus transportation is available for all L-S students at 9:00 and 12:00 daily at a fee of $20 per session. If your child is attending the full three hours, busing is available both ways. If your child is not attending the entire three hours, then only busing to the Academy at 9:00 a.m. or home from the Academy at 12:00 p.m. is available. Please request busing only if you plan to use it. A $20 fee for transportation will be assessed regardless if transportation is used one-way or roundtrip. Scheduling stops for students who then do not use the bus results in longer bus rides for all students. In addition, transportation cannot be guaranteed for late registrations (After June 11, 2010). Please indicate on the registration form if you will need bus transportation. If you have questions about transportation, call Jeff Landis, Transportation Coordinator, at 464-3311 Ext. 1011. Bus schedules for both Academy Sessions will be mailed on Monday June 28, 2010.
