The Summer Academy

The Lampeter-Strasburg School District is proud to provide students entering grades 2 – 6 the opportunity to participate in the Academy at L-S this summer. The Academy will be held from July 5 – July 28, 2011. These dates will be split into two sessions. The first session will be held from Tuesday, July 5th – Thursday, July 14th and the second session will held from Monday, July 18th – Thursday, July 28th. Academy classes will not be held on Fridays this year.

As a result, each academy class has been extended from 60 to 75 minutes to equal the same amount of time a full five day week would offer. Academy will run from 8:30am-12:15pm. Session I will be seven total days of instruction and Session II will be eight total days of instruction. The cost of Session I will be prorated as a result of the loss of one day due to the Independence Day Holiday. The Academy is designed to offer students enrichment in math, reading, writing and science as well as the arts and athletics. This year’s catalog will provide students with various opportunities to engage in learning that promises to be fun!

Enrichment Classes:

Enrichment classes are designed to provide students with unique learning opportunities not available during the regular school year. A wide variety of classes are offered in two two-week sessions. Students may register for up to three classes during each session. Room numbers will be posted at the start of each session.

Support Classes:

Students may be invited to attend the Reading and Math Camps at the Academy. It is essential that students attend everyday for support classes to gain the maximum academic benefit these courses can offer. Room numbers will be posted at the start of each session.

Registration and Deadlines:

All registration forms and payment are due by June 10, 2011. Parents are encouraged to register on-line. Payment for all camp sessions can also be made on-line. If not registering by the Internet, please complete the attached registration form and submit it to the Hans Herr Office.

All families who register by June 10, 2011, will receive a discounted tuition price.

Please note that there are maximum limits per class, and that the classes will be filled on a first come, first served basis.

Discipline:

All rules and regulations of the Hans Herr Elementary School will be in effect during the Academy. Any suspendable offenses will terminate a student's enrollment. Tuition payments will not be refunded for a suspension.

Grade Levels:

Programs are offered for students going into grades 2-6. All grade levels are based on the grade the student will be going into in September 2012.

Location:

All classes will be held on the Lampeter-Strasburg campus, with most of them at Hans Herr. Most course locations are listed with the course descriptions. Students will also be directed to classrooms during the first day of each session.

Nonresident Students:

All Academy at L-S programs are offered to students outside the Lampeter-Strasburg School District on a space available basis.

Refunds:

If a course is canceled due to insufficient registration, students will receive a refund of the entire tuition for that course. If a student withdraws or is removed from a course, no refund will be given.

Transportation:

Bus transportation is available for all L-S students at 8:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. daily at a fee of $20 per session. If your child is attending the full session, busing is available both ways. If your child is not attending the entire session, then only busing to the Academy at 8:30 a.m. or home from the Academy at 12:15 p.m. is available. Please request busing only if you plan to use it. A $20 fee for transportation will be assessed regardless if transportation is used one-way or roundtrip.

Scheduling stops for students who then do not use the bus results in longer bus rides for all students. In addition, transportation cannot be guaranteed for late registrations (After June 10, 2011). Please indicate on the registration form if you will need bus transportation. If you have questions about transportation, call Jeff Landis, Transportation Coordinator, at 464-3311 Ext. 1011. Bus schedules for both Academy Sessions will be mailed by the end of June.
